COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 27, 2009) – One year ago, Berkley pro Stetson Blaylock was simply a co-angler on the FLW Tour. Today, he is the youngest angler to win an FLW Tour event. The 21- year old Benton, Ark., native capitalized on an early jig bite to win the Lake Norman event and pocket a $200,000 check.
“I really thought I could win this tournament early,” said Blaylock. “Most of the anglers missed out on the jig bite, which was critical to my win. I tipped my jig with a 3-inch Berkley Power Craw in green pumpkin. The 3-inch Power Craw is the ideal bait, specially when looking for a reactionary bite because the craw’s pinchers give a life-like action to the presentation.”
As the tournament progressed and the jig bite slowly died, Blaylock resorted to throwing a Berkley Power Bait Slim Shaky Worm on a shaky head.
Blaylock’s line choices included 12-pound Berkley 100% Fluorocarbon line for the big custom jig and 10-pound Spiderwire braid with an 8-pound Berkley fluorocarbon leader for the finesse jig.
“You have to adapt to every situation that is presented,” said Blaylock. “That is why I switched over to the Slim Shaky Worm on a shaky head. It allowed me to lighten my tackle and finesse my way to victory.”
The next FLW Tour event is set for May 14-17 on Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark.
